Winter Snowboard Wedding at Squaw Valley

by Scott Sady

Those of you that have read my bio know that I spend a lot of time in the mountains. I ski hard, both in bounds and in the backcountry. I have agreements with some of the local resorts to do their winter advertising photography. And I am a competitive whitewater kayaker, spending most of June in Colorado competing in the various freestyle competitions there. So you can imagine, when I got a call from Wendy saying they needed a photographer to shoot their winter wedding at High Camp in Squaw Valley, and then ski the hill with them after for pictures, I jumped on it. Not only am I comfortable skiing with a camera in my hand, sometimes backwards, they were going to ride in their full tux and gown. Woohoo! I’m hoping to get them back in full dress on a sunny day, but old man winter is clinging tenaciously to these hills. Monique was along to photograph the bride getting ready and skiing down.  Throw into the mix a minor blizzard, and a guest in a gorilla suit, and you have all the ingredients for a great, quirky wedding that is the kind of thing I live for. Have a look.

The brides mother made a custom MOTORIZED cake with spinning snowboarders and other cool figures.

A nice moment between the bride and dad just before heading out to the ceremony.

Wendy had a cool, sassy dress that fit her personality perfectly.

Sound check in the snow.

This was the first time I noticed there was a gorilla at the wedding. I was backing up shooting the bride and out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw a gorilla. Must be a trick of the light says my brain. Fortunately, my finger kept shooting.
