Liz and Rob’s wedding at the Fairwinds Estate on the north shores of Lake Tahoe was a delight to document. Usually with every wedding I photograph, there are a few themes that run through out the wedding. For Liz and Rob’s wedding, they were: family, non traditional, marriage equality, and “roasted pig.” When I first started to talk with Liz about her plans, she really wanted to emphasize that this whole wedding business was so foreign to her … they just wanted to have a fun get together with family and friends, and have the casual day documented from the getting ready process through the sunset. It was important to capture them with Rob’s daughter, Isabel, throughout the day. And, sure, there were a few formalities associated with weddings, such as the ceremony, toasts and cake cutting, but the rest of the day was a laid back gathering with a lot of mingling, spontaneous singing/a bit of dancing, and boulder climbing at sunset.
